Mint Museum
The Mint Museum was built in 1911 as a thermal power station and is the only Western-style brick building from the Meiji period remaining on the grounds of the Japan Mint.
In 1969 the preservation of the building was planned and the building of that time was renovated and opened as the “Mint Museum” to make valuable coins which Japan Mint had stored available to the public and introduce the mint industry.
In 2008 a large renovation was conducted bringing in the newest techniques to the exhibition and the equipment and the museum reopened in April 2009.
